Honorable Mention
For my 15th birthday party I did a Hollywood theme since that same summer I went on a vacation to California.
For my invites, I made clapboards out of construction paper and thin cardboard. I used metal brads to connect the top part of the clapboard so the clapboard could open and close. I wrote the party information using a silver marker. I decorated for my party by using a plastic red tablecloth as a red carpet leading up to the front door, using crepe paper along the red carpet to look like a red rope, and created a curtain/cover on the door by using a scrap piece of sequined red fabric.
On the door I then placed a sign that said VIP PARTY". On the sidewalk leading up to the house I made a walk of fame out of construction-paper-and-glitter stars with each of my guests names on them. In the living room I put white Christmas lights on the fireplace and hung up some movie posters I got for free at a local movie rental store. In the kitchen I put a red plastic table cloth on the table and had a Hollywood centerpiece (purchased from the local party store)on the middle of the table. From the ceiling I hung curled gold curling ribbon.
Before the party started I created a CD filled with songs about California and Hollywood like Hooray for Hollywood California Gurls Something about the Sunshine etc. that played when guests were arriving.
Activities that we did during the party were photographs in front of the Hollywood sign which I made by cutting letters spelling HOLLYWOOD out of white poster board then tying them to a few pieces of cheap fence we got from a HomeDepot. We then placed the sign on a hill next to our house and put a spotlight (from Christmas decoration on it. We painted and decorated (glitter gems etc.) wooden picture frames (from a craft store) that they could put the photos from the Hollywood sign in.
We played a few rounds of the "Just Dance" game on the Nintendo Wii. We watched a few of our favorite movies while eating popcorn.
I also created trivia to ask them with questions about which actors/actresses played who in a movie which lines came from what movie and song lyrics from movie soundtracks. Some examples of the questions are:
-Audrey Hepburn played Holly Golightly in - Breakfast at Tiffany’s
-Leonardo DiCaprio played Jack Dawson in - Titanic
-"Listen Opal you cannot hold onto anything that wants to go. Do you understand what I'm sayin'? You just got to love it while you got it and that's that." Because of Winn Dixie
-"Nothing. Nothing. Not a thing Cruella. Oh by the way Mer. I think there's something on your head." - the parent trap
-I’ve had the time of my life and I owe it all to you - dirty dancing
-"Summer Days drifting away away to uh oh those summer nights" - grease
-"The dreams that you dare to dream really do come true".wizard of oz
There was no specific costumes for this party the guests wore what they were comfortable in since it was a sleepover. Dinner was more buffet style with cubed cheese chicken nuggets fruitring baloney and hot pretzel pieces. We laid out a few home-made dips for the foods. We drank sparkling cider in plastic champagne glasses. Plates and napkins were gold and black and said Hollywood on them (purchased at a party store). Everything was served on toothpicks to make the buffet seem fancier.
The cake was a homemade chocolate with chocolate and vanilla striped frosting in the shape of a clapboard. On it we wrote "Take 15".
The favor bags were red with gold curling ribbon as following with the red and gold color scheme. In them I put Chinese themed change purses to represent Grauman's Chinese Theater candy-lipsticks and ringpops (diamonds are a girl's best friend!).
In the thank-you notes I included a group shot taken by the Hollywood sign that they could put in the frames they decorated at the party.
Make sure you have a camera available or have someone else take pictures during the party because there will be plenty of great photo opportunities! "
